The first week of May brings summer-like weather and the opportunity to celebrate some of our most treasured community members: our teachers, nurses, and military.
Teacher Appreciation Day was created through the persuasion of the 81st Congress by Elenore Roosevelt. Later, the National PTA established the first full week of May as Teacher Appreciation Week. In May, we call to mind the teachers that shaped us.
Nurse Appreciation Week recognizing America’s four million registered nurses. As declared by the American Nurses Association in 1993, we celebrate the unparalleled impact of nurses May 6th-12th.
May also represents many individual days dedicated to military accomplishments. In 1999, Congress designated the whole month as a way of reminding Americans of the important role U.S. Armed Forces play in our history and development.
We encourage you to #ThankATeacher, show your pride for #nursesweek, and make time for #militaryappreciation.
Are you a teacher, nurse, or member of the military? Please stop by Potomac Point any time through the end of May with a valid form of identification and enjoy two for one classic wine tastings.
