It’s official: our first Club Blending Challenge yesterday was a smashing success! David, Potomac Point’s head winemaker, and Skip, the owner of the winery started the afternoon out by leading attendees through a crash course on creating different wine blends from only a small selection of base varietals. It’s truly amazing how many vastly different creations can come from only about 6 different types of grapes! At that point, it was time for our guests to try their hand at blending wine themselves, and that’s when the fun really began. Every seat was equipped with several glasses, measuring equipment, and all of the supplies needed to do a good bit of trial and error (as well as a place to dump out those attempts that didn’t quite turn out right), and that’s exactly what our honorary winemakers did. After about 30 minutes of experimentation, each team decided which of their creations they wanted to submit, and it was time for our judges to deliberate!
It was no easy task, but our panel decided on the blend created by Tresss, the team comprised of Casey and Stephanie Travers, Fernando and Sylvia Medina, and Mike and Stacey Lauter. David and Skip then walked the winning team through how to create enough of their blend for the whole room to taste. Our other three teams, the Wildlings, the Grapenuts, and Vino de Equipo created fantastic blends as well and a good time was had by all, which was the most important part! If you didn’t make it out here yesterday, there’s still a chance to join in on the fun and you most definitely don’t want to miss out! There will be another Club Blending Challenge on June 14th where a second winner will be selected, and the two will go head to head to see which blend lands in our July club shipment. You can read a little more about the event and purchase tickets here, and we can’t wait to see you this Sunday!
