Stafford Food Security
We are excited to help Stafford Food Security provide food to kids and families in need over the summer. Throughout the school year teachers are able to identify food insecure children and distribute backpacks to those in need. Sometimes the free and reduced school lunch programs supply the only meal a child is receiving that day. With that in mind, summer time for these kids can be quite difficult. When school is not in session, these children may not be receiving a meal at all. This enterprise is funded solely through donations from churches, businesses, and generous individuals. During the month of May & June Potomac Point Winery is offering great incentives to all of our customers to help us fill the backpacks of these kids in need: Donate Food, Receive Discounts & Feel Good!
Donate any 5 items from the list and receive a complimentary classic wine tasting! (You can even bring 5 of the same item)
Club members would receive an upgraded premier wine tasting. Valid the whole month of May & June.

What We Do:
Our first endeavor is a childhood backpack meal program with local schools. We collect shelf stable food and pack meals for a family of 4 in non-descript backpacks (matched to school colors) for children to take home to feed their families dinner that night. We collect no personal data on the recipients. There are no income requirements. If a teacher deems the child in need, the child goes home with food. All we need to know is how many backpacks are distributed in a given week, so we can bring more as needed.
Summer Meals:
Stafford Food Security partnered with local organizations like Stafford Junction and The Heartwood Center to provide nutritious meals to students this summer. We have provided over 600 meals during the summer of 2017. This year, we will continue to partner with Stafford Junction and Heartwood. We are also partnering with the Rappahanock Area YMCA to feed kids in Stafford County. More information on that effort will be released soon.
In March of 2018, in an effort to expand our reach to families in need by partnering with the Office of the Stafford County Sheriff. Our backpack meals are now stocked in patrol cars, ready to be distributed to families when deputies see a need.
