The International Eastern Wine Competition (IEWC), established in 1975, is one of the oldest and largest professional wine competitions in the nation.  Entries are available to wineries produced in the East, making it a truly regional affair.

The judging was held Feb. 10-11, 2015 in Sonoma County, California.  Over 100+ wineries From 32 different states submitted 1,162 bottles of the best wines they had to offer.  Traditional awards were given in each division; any wines given a gold medal were then entered into a Taste off to see which wine was “Best of Class”.  The Eastern division garnered 22 best of class, 23 double gold, and 76 gold medals.

Potomac Point Winery entered only three wines into the competition this year, each one earning a coveted medal.  Potomac Point’s Cabernet Franc 2013 was awarded a gold medal, moving on to win “Best of Class” for the Cabernet Franc Varietal.  Once all of the “Best of Class” wines were selected, they held a Taste off to determine that Potomac Point’s Cabernet Franc was also awarded the Sought-after “Best Red” overall award. While both Potomac Point Winery’s Viognier Reserve 2013 and Vino Camino 2013 were awarded bronze medals.
