Banquet Captain
Under the general supervision of the Sales Manager
Job Function:
Responsible for smooth and efficient operation of the food and beverage services offered throughout the winery, including private and in-house events; as well as related guest services through hands-on direction, leadership and supervision. Continually maintain & exceed all standards of service, guest satisfaction & staff development. Develop an environment within these areas, which encourage employees to be happy, motivated and proud of the products and services provided by them, resulting in a joyful, memorable, relaxed event for our guests. Develop a loyal following amongst guests, thus increasing business and furthering the winery’s reputation of providing a quality experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee and participate in the process of hiring, training and furthering the abilities of all winery event staff.
- Oversee and participate in the process of disciplining and re-training winery event staff.
- Regularly update the related procedural manuals.
- Assist with the weekly scheduling of event employees, according to business levels and labor budgets.
- Maintain effective communication with other department heads and managers.
- Attend weekly BEO meetings.
- Conduct regular inventory audits of catering related items, and re-order items when necessary.
- Liaise with the Director of Operations regarding the sourcing of, and purchase of, unique products thus allowing the operation to excel and compete with a superior catering program.
- Liaise with Facility Coordinator to ensure cleanliness and set-up within all function rooms as it relates to event operations.
- Liaise with Sales Manager & Venue Coordinator to ensure quality and accuracy of set-ups within all catering rooms.
- Ensure proper operation of all equipment necessary for events and catering.
- Responsible for quality control and smooth operation of all private and in-house events.
- Responsible for compliance of ABC rules during private events.
- Complete After-Action & Consumption Reports for all non-wedding private and in-house events.
- Become familiar with the computer systems and technology currently in use (digital dining) as it relates to events.
- Become a Digital Dining Trainer.
- Assist Sales Manager in coordination of their sales efforts as they relate to events. Gain the ability to conduct event site visits when necessary.
- Ensure all staff that have direct reporting to you understand and follow all standards, policies and procedures of the winery.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma Required
- Minimum of one year experience in similar position
Environmental Factors/Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs.; walk and stand for extended periods of time; climb up and down stairs multiple times daily.
- Must pass DMV background check
- Must pass criminal background investigation
All candidates must have reliable transportation, be punctual and present themselves in an appropriate manner for a winery environment.
