“Tucking” is a term named because we are taking the growing vines and “tucking” them between the sets of guide-wires. The shoots that are hanging or protruding out into the row are lifted up and tucked into the wires above. The Potomac Point Vineyard has 3 rows of wires, and we put the growth inside the 2 wires on each row.
Why? Part of the reason is to let the sun get to the grapes? The longest shoots today were actually laying on the ground before we picked them up. The vines will be ‘tucked’ 2 or 3 times in the season! Here are some photos of the action:
