We are very excited and thankful to announce that two of Potomac Point’s wines, 2014 Richland Reserve Heritage and Vino Camino, received gold medals by the San Francisco International Wine Competition for 2016! A gold medal wine by SFIWC standards is described as “an excellent wine, meeting very high standards.”
The San Francisco International Wine Competition is the largest international wine competition in America and is held annually in June. This June concluded the 36th year that the SFIWC has been held. The competition takes place over four days, where wine and spirit masters, specialists, and certified sommeliers blind taste thousands of wines knowing only the varietal and vintage. This year in 2016, over 4,600 entries were received and only a fraction received this prestigious award! You can see us and other fabulous award winners in the SOMM Journal in August 2016.
Our Vino Camino is a fusion wine with herbal and balsamic notes that is very dear to Potomac Point Winery. Our winemaker, David Pagan Castaño, is no stranger to winemaking. Raised in Yecla, Spain, David is a third generation winemaker with a Master’s degree in Oenology and Viticulture. David has led his family’s winery, Bodegas Castaño, become a part of our own. Vino Camino blends juice from David’s family in Spain with a Virginia Cabernet Franc from our family at Potomac Point. We are so happy to blend our families and our wines to create a wine recognized to be as special to others as it is to us!
Potomac Point’s 2014 Richland Reserve Heritage is another special wine to us. Our signature wine is a stylistically correct French Bordeaux. It is aged for 16 months to create a full mid palate and a long finish. The 2014 Richland Reserve includes an intense aroma of red and black berries and spicy black pepper, cloves, and vanilla. It is a favorite among many!
